Why now, why Donald!

I am deeply saddened that at this very junction in history, at this very time, Donald J Trump is running for President. The fact that Trump lacks the temperament and a consistency of principle to be suitable for the position is not my obsession. I despair because his cult like phenomenon, combined with the appalling standard of journalism has effectively created a vacuum, sucking all attention away from a truly outstanding quality candidate of Ted Cruz.

It has been alarming to witness the decline of the mighty USA since 2008. Living in Australia, I remember a time when a statement from the President of the USA meant something. Say what you will about George W Bush’s misstatements, it was still the case that when the President voiced an opinion or commented, it was of significant import to the international community. Since Obama’s election however, announcements from the President of the United States’ are now rarely reported upon internationally.

The global consequence of a now ‘Weak America’ has been a sharp turn to the left for international politics. Peripheral issues now takes precedence over substantial ones. The concept of Government debt is almost an abstract notion that possesses little importance and no scrutiny. Political correctness has silenced debate to the extent that lives are being ruined for having an opinion that is contrary to the Governments prevailing ‘group think’, and the world is getting less stable by the day.

Imagine eight years ago saying to someone in a bar that in the 2016 US Presidential race, the democrats will have a proclaimed socialist running (and securing more of the popular vote)? You’d be cut off and escorted to the door by a large Islander under the hotel’s employ. Hillary Clinton as president would accelerate the demise of the USA. Bernie Sanders would ensure it, but what about Donald Trump? Trump is erratic, unpredictable and unfit for office. The man changes his positions like the other candidates change their underwear. He blames others for his failures but assumes sole responsibility for success. ‘Build a wall’, 'it’s going to be great’ and ‘make America great again’ seems to be his version of detailed policy announcements. This combined with a poor vocabulary translates into Donald Trump being a poor communicator, the very reason that he is refusing to debate Ted Cruz.

If you didn’t know any better one could conclude that Donald Trump is a Democrat plant, sent in to disrupt the GOP race and ensure an otherwise unlikely victory for an undeserving Hillary Clinton. The fact that Donald Trump will not beat Hillary Clinton should be as clear as the nose on ones face, but as with many cults, facts can be obfuscated by blind belief.

So, with the rise of the Islam-O-Nazis, China manufacturing Islands and claiming territory in the south China sea, Putin acting with impunity and the European Union on its’ knees, the world needs a strong America. The ability of USA to reattain this status requires a true leader. A leader who wants to ‘do good’, rather than ‘feel good’. One who can outline a strategy with the necessary specificity to convince others to follow. I argue that Ted Cruz, a conservative, intelligent, articulate, former debate champion would be perfect for the role. Again, I am deeply saddened that at this very junction in history, at this very time, Donald J Trump is running for President.

Richard, appearing to be deep in thought, an appearance that is deceptive.

40 years old and getting more cynical by the day. A lover of eccentricity, a proponent of the individual, civil liberties and freedoms. Often at loggerheads with those demanding uniformity in the name of the collective. Argues as an individual, and not as part of a group or organisation.

I never set out to offend, but in the words of the great linguist Stephen Fry

“It's now very common to hear people say, 'I'm rather offended by that.' As if that gives them certain rights. It's actually nothing more... than a whine. 'I find that offensive.' It has no meaning; it has no purpose; it has no reason to be respected as a phrase. 'I am offended by that.' Well, so f**king what."

My Book

This is where I would advertise a book had I wrote one.
